My name is Peter Collins, and I have been elected as Mayor of the Borough of Fylde for the 2018 – 19 municipal year.

I consider myself to be very much a local lad and can trace my family tree back to 1542 living in Warton. I was born in Lytham and I have lived most of my life in Clifton Village. I attended Lea County Primary School and Kirkham Grammar School, where I was more of a sportsman than an academic – I was vice-captain of Rugby, and captain of athletics.

I went on to study structural engineering at Brunel University, where I was a regular in the 1st XV, and also social secretary of the rugby club.

I graduated in 1980, and have worked for John Laing Construction, the Building Research Station, and the Austin Company of UK.

I ran the off licence in Clifton Village for many years and expanded it to include a newsagents and Post Office, before selling the business in 2015. I then took up my present employment as an undertaker in the Preston area.

I have been a Fylde Borough Councillor since 2003 was Chairman of Newton with Clifton Parish Council in 2016-17.

In my spare time I am learning to fly hot air balloons, and hope to obtain my Private Pilot`s Licence during my year as Mayor. I am also a lifelong supporter of Blackpool Football Club.

I know I have the full support of my wife Caroline, who I married in 2014. Between us we have one son, one daughter and a grandson.
